No Julia No
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

Ah, Julia!
No Julia, no Julia, no, no, Julia, no!

You've got it wrong, and I ask of you
That you should get it right.
You heard me wrong, won't you hear me now.
You've got me all up tight.

Julia no! (4x)

Ah, Julia!
No Julia, no Julia, no, no, Julia, no!

You broke my heart when you said to me
That we could never work.
Now we're apart, and I lose again,
The future looks so dark.

Look who's alone again!

Ah, Julia!
No Julia, no Julia, no, no, Julia, no!

(Instrumental)

Ah, Julia!
No Julia, no Julia, no, no, Julia, no!

You've got it wrong, and I ask of you
That you should get it right.
You heard me wrong, won't you hear me now.
You've got me all up tight.

Julia no! (4x)
Ah, Julia!

Good Time Jimbo Jim
Copyright © 2000 Tom McFaul

Good time Jimbo Jim;
Good time Jimmy-boy Jim.

Came into town from way out west,
He was packing a gun
And looking good in a sheepskin vest.

No drugstore cat gonna tangle with Jim;
Hit you with a cannonball left
And the lights begin to dim!

Good time Jimbo Jim;
Good time Jimmy-boy Jim.

(Instrumental)

Jim said I'm gonna make a man outa you,
I'm gonna tear you apart
And then put back together again (2x)

Good time Jimbo Jim;
Good time Jimmy-boy Jim.

(Instrumental fade)

I Can't Begin to Be Happy
Copyright © 2000 Ron Renninger

I'm gonna find my way into another day,
Where life is warm, and where I can stay.
Ah, look at me!
Look at the state I'm in.
I can't begin to be happy.

Ah, you got nothing to do except look around.
I've got nothing to say except I won't be found.

Ah, Look at me!
Look at the the state I'm in.
I can't begin to be happy.

And I am living the life of a poor damn fool!

(Instrumental)

To communicate, ah, but it's such a waste
To try and create a better race.

Ah, look at me!
Look at the state I'm in.
I can't begin to be happy.

And I am living the life of a poor damn fool!

(Instrumental ending)

Very Natural
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

It's all very natural,
It seems so very natural
To be on the bad side of you.
I lost you in September,
And again in December.
It looks like it'll be in April, too.

I thought you would like to play
This lovely little game with me:
You take what you need and desire from me.
But love you broke the rules,
Now I don't feel so cool;
You left me with my heart upon the fire.

Gone are the days when I could talk to you.
Now you never even listen, no.
I thought that we could work it out between us two.

And I want to start it all over again now.
And I want to start it all over again now.

I hold in my hands and arms
An instrument to sing your charms.
That's all the closer I'll get to you.
I hold the guitar closer, and sing a little softer,
And think about the days when we first met.

What have you gained from being friends with me?
We can't even be together now.
It's not the same when there's a thousand miles between.

And I want to start it all over again now.
And I want to start it all over again now, yeah. (2x)

It's all very natural,
It seems so very natural
To be on the bad side of you.
I lost you in September,
And again in December.
It looks like it'll be in April, too.
It looks like it'll be in April, too.
It looks like it'll be in April, too.

For Peace
Copyright © 2000 Tom McFaul

For peace, for peace ...

Ah, kill a dove, baby, for peace.
Burn down the library for peace.
Fill up all the prisons for peace.
Steal for peace.
Pack up all your troubles for peace.
Love for peace.
Have a barbecue for peace.
Die for peace.
Hate for peace.
Join a rock and roll band for peace.
Let's eat some wheat germ for peace.
C'mon groove on the garbage for peace.
Open up a restaurant for peace.
Let your thing hang out ...

Sunday Brings Another Day
Copyright © 2000 Tom McFaul

Found another reason today,
Good day for make believe.
How can I pretend I'm alive? (Alive)
Oh, why did she tell me she loved me?

Sunday brings another, Monday brings another day.

Got to find another way to get by,
Don't cry for yesterday.
Make a paper airplane and fly, good-bye.
What can I do to forget you?

Sunday brings another, Monday brings another day.

Passing the time away,
Her shadow still haunts me.
I close my eyes and I see her, returning.

Standing beside me, her eyes full of sadness
Open my eyes and she's gone again.

Found another reason today,
Good day
For dreaming my whole life away. (3x)

For a Dime or So
Copyright © 2000 Tom McFaul

Remember Mommy, and then
Remember Daddy, and then
After Daddy there was a whole lot of people
Who let themselves go for a dime or so.
I remember old Rose Marie,
Oh, so pretty to see was Rose Marie,
But you could never look at old Rose.

I don't guess the problem's not having memories.
It's just a question of making them up
At the right time for a dime or so.

Lovely Lady
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

Lovely lady, I'm waiting.
Lovely lady, I'm waiting.
Lovely lady, I've lived a thousand years,
Lovely lady, I've come no near;
So near, yet so far, lovely lady
To get where we are, lovely lady, wait for me.

Will you promise to help me?
Will you promise to help me?
Will you promise to love me when I'm old?
Will you promise that when it's cold,
Too cold, and too dark, will you promise,
You'll still want my heart, lovely lady, stay with me.

Love has been good to us;
We've got no right to complain.

It's watching one's life marking time to a drum
That causes the worry and pain. (2x)

Lovely lady, I'm singing.
Lovely lady, I'm singing.
Lovely lady, I've died a thousand times.
Lovely lady, I crossed the line.
I can't change my mind, lovely lady,
I've gone much too far, lovely lady, wait for me.

How Shall I Speak To You?
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

How shall I speak to you?
With words or with songs,
Or with love from my heart?
Does it make a difference?
The language is the same
When we're near of far apart.

Hidden in the better part of all of us:
Voices of creation that are calling us.
I listen to them dictate while I scribe.

When shall I sing to you?
Tomorrow, or maybe today if I fly?
Do I know you're you're listening?
Unless I know you are I don't even want to try.

The message comes quickly,
The meaning comes slowly. (4x)

Where shall I take you to?
Above or below or inside my own self?
May guess the answer?
If singing isn't love I can't even ask for help.

Talking isn't good enough to do it right.
Something else is needed yet to make it bite.
I sing it, and I love it, and I mean it.

How shall I speak to you?
With words or with songs,
Or with love from my heart?
Does it make a difference?
The language is the same
When we're near or far apart.

Let the Sun Shine Through
Copyright © 2000 Ron Renninger

I went away to spend a day
In the open air,
Searchin' for a summer's day
From all my cares.

I try again to tell myself
Alone is how I should be.
I want a way to find someone
Who'll find something in me.

You can be a friend of mine,
And let the sun shine through
Close your eyes and let the time go by.
And let the sun shine through
Tall green trees and yellow flowers,
And let the sun shine through
Ecstasy in the summer showers.
And let the sun shine through ...

You are ... I watch the sea below.
Wonder whether I should ...
Maybe try to imitate ...
Concentrating on a groovy trip
Life is not what it seems
I wanna know why I'm so blue
You don't let the sun shine through

(Long instrumental)

You can be a friend of mine,
And let the sun shine through
Close your eyes and let the time go by.
And let the sun shine through
Tall green trees and yellow flowers,
And let the sun shine through
Ecstasy in the summer showers.
And let the sun shine through ...

Sun shine, sun shine ...

If I believe someone else will carry my pack,
When I get where I'm going I'll find
That I've got nothing more than the clothes on my back.

If I believe incredible stories
Related by men in long coats and tall hats,
When my friends come home from the war
They won't be my friends anymore,
And the tales they tell
Will conflict with the tall men's facts.

You reap what you sow,
Plant the seeds of love and let it grow, let it grow. (2x)

Sensational news!
Radical views!
A nation is dying for not keeping up with its dues.

If I believe that no one's watching,
No one's listening, no one knows,
Life will pass by anyway,
Disappearing day by day.

You reap what you sow,
Plant the seeds of love and let it grow, let it grow. (2x)

(Instrumental Break)

You reap what you sow,
Plant the seeds of love and let it grow, let it grow. (2x)
Let it grow (4x)
(Howl)

My Toy Soldiers
Copyright © 2000 Ron Renninger

What do they care, fighting all day?
War after war, with nothing to say.

My toy soldiers, aah-aah. (4x)

Complicated strategy!
Unselfish gallantry!

My toy soldiers, aah-aah. (4x)

Run, run, watch them all run, run,
Watch them all fall.
Down, down, watch them all fall, fall,
Watch them fall down,
   watch them fall down,
     watch them fall down.

(Instrumental)

End of the day,
My soldiers are dead.
I'm tired of play,
So I'll put them away
Till tomorrow, oo-ooh.

My toy soldiers, aah-aah. (3x)

(Vocal counterpoint)

We Waited For Nothing
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

Christmas came on a Thursday that year.
And the fall had been so cold,
And the winter was so long and sad.

Greetings sent from far away friends
Made the days at home no better,
Nor the sleepless nights much shorter.

No end in sight,
Just black and white.
A thousand days,
And still no light.

Evenings spent sitting quietly by,
We saw the changing year,
And watched the shadows disappear.

No end in sight,
Just black and white.
A thousand days,
And still no light.

We waited for nothing! (3x)

Christmas came on a Thursday that year,
And the fall had been so cold,
And the winter was so long and sad.

Nobody had the time to stay
And help us with our tangled lives,
Or help cheer up our lonely wives.

No end in sight,
Just black and white.
A thousand days,
And still no light.

We waited for nothing! (4x)

Maybe In December
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

A long, long time ago---
It's been much too long I know---
You found me dying, took me for your friend.
I was so broken down from discontent.
The life I've led from that day on
Was spent in looking forward and beyond.

Maybe in December we can set you free.
Life would be so simple were it up to you and me.

The fear grew more and more,
Slowly crept up to your door.
I found you dying, took you for my own.
You were so shattered, frightened, and alone.
We talk of how we'll work it out;
It's not our fault if weaker men have doubts.

Maybe in December we can set you free.
Life would be so simple were it up to you and me.

Maybe in December, maybe in December---
I think certainly.

Let's Take it Home
Copyright © 2000 Tom McFaul

Let's take it home,
Let's take it home,
Let's take it all the way home. (2x)

You can have a lemon, she can have a lemon,
If she wants to try to take a picture of a lemon,
Then she'll prob'ly have a lemon of a picture.

Animosity will get you all the satisfaction
Of a combination of a lot of trials and tribulations,
She might even try to get you.

You can have a lemon, she can have a lemon,
If she wants to try to take a picture of a lemon,
Then she'll prob'ly have a lemon of a picture.

I once knew a man who would give me things.
I once knew a man who would give me things.
I once knew someone who would give me things.
And he had a wife who would not.

Let's take it home,
Let's take it home,
Let's take it all the way home. (2x)

The Perfect Believer
(With Apologies to Dylan)
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

(Once in a while you feel like getting away from almost everything.)

The perfect believer
Has nothing to say of the life he leads.
And the soul he gives away
Is lost within a day and gone,
A token of his love of life
Mistaken by his loving wife
As something strong inside.

Though it's she who lacks the love within
To win the total loving soul of him.

The perfect believer
Remains far away from the rage of day.
But before his eyes and ears
Can stop the lies and tears, it's dawn.
The sun comes up across the land
And all arise except one man,
Who cowers in the light.

Now it's he who looks around to find
His loving wife has left him far behind.

(Instrumental)

Rage, rage, rage against the dying of the night!
Rage against the dawning of the light.

The perfect believer
Arrives on a cloud in a mystic trance.
He has been to meet a man
Who claims to see a plan in life.
He reaches out his perfect hand
To feel again the burning sand
Beneath his shaking feet.

Though he's still as silent as before,
His frightened soul will fight a private war.

I Wanna Be Free
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

Come set my soul free for the rest of my life.
Don't cut my heart out, oh no,
We've only started,
And I really wanna be free, yes I do---
Free from the things that keep me away from you.

Don't take your love away and leave me alone.
My heart is crying for you,
To hold me near you
For I need you, can't you see?
Can't you see, I wanna be free?

(Instrumental)

My heart is calling you to come with me,
And make our two lives be one.
We need each other,
To find a way to be free, yes we do---
Free in a new world that's waiting for you and me.

The sun is shining down in a brand new day.
This life together I know
Will be much better,
For we can always be free, you and me,
Living life in a love that is always free.

Tell Me a Story
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

Tell me a story about a lost generation.
Tell me a story about the birth of a nation.
Hang it together with a tale of salvation,
Then tell me it's true.

Tell me a story about a new innovation.
Tell me a story about your latest creation.
Piece it together with some more information.
Then tell me it's you.

(Instrumental)

Tell me a story about the people outside.
Tell me a story about the things you can't hide.
Bring it together with a piece of your pride,
Then tell me it's you.

Tell me a story about the man you defied.
Tell me a story about the tricks that you tried.
Put it together with a shout and a cry.
Then tell me it's true.

(Long instrumental)

Put it together with a shout and a cry.
Then tell me it's true.

Sitting
Copyright © 2000 Bob Stuhler

She's sitting, her back against the wall,
Like someone waiting for a telephone call.
She just sits there waiting in a trance.
She's more than tired; she's lost her chance.
And now there's nothing moving in her mind.
What worlds she's been to and left so far behind.
Who sits and tries so hard to find
Her lonely spirit she must have left behind.

There was a time for her love if you'd been there.
Yeah, you could have given her love if you'd been there.
Oh, she would have been fine in your arms if you'd been there.

But now it's too late, she's resigned to her fate,
And finds it not fitting to care.

Apples and oranges both sell very well
On the street corner where I live.
Everyone's talking about them.

Wish I Could Cry For You
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

It seems like some people lose all the time.
I wonder why?
And I know that you're one of those unhappy people,
And I wish I could cry for you;
I really do wish I could cry for you.

It seems like you've had your share of trouble, girl,
And I feel bad.
But I know that you've learned to take care of yourself now,
And I wish I could cry for you;
I really do wish I could cry for you.

Put your lonely head on my shoulder.
Thank the good Lord that this thing is over.
Let yourself go for once in your life;
Believe in yourself and believe in the power of love.
And I wish I could cry for you;
I really do wish I could cry for you

It seems like I've had to be hard on you.
I'm sorry now.
But you needed love, not the advice of a stranger,
And I wish I could cry for you;
I really do wish I could cry for you.

Put your lonely head on my shoulder.
Thank the good Lord that this thing is over.
Let yourself go for once in your life;
Believe in yourself, and believe in the power of love,
And I wish I could cry for you --
I really do wish I could cry for you;
Wish I could cry for you.

Green Fields
Copyright © 2000 Lynn David Newton

Crossing into a dream,
From roads that lead to Neverland,
Strange voices whispered into our ears:
``Take a walk with me, follow quietly!''

Into places of rain,
Where things exchange their chemistry,
We saw a sound and felt an hour,
And a thought flew by dressed in red and blue.

Green fields, they were green fields
On a path of stones and wishing bones (2x)

Under trees where we found
That things begin and things are green,
There, too, was hope and understanding,
And a place to think and a place to love.

Green fields, they were green fields
On a path of stones and wishing bones (2x)

(Instrumental)

Green fields, they were green fields
On a path of stones and wishing bones
(Repeat and fade)
