The beginning of my String Quartet, the one that I
count, though I could technically call it my second quartet.
There are four short movements. The whole piece is about six or
seven minutes long. It was performed twice, and would have been
played again on my senior recital if my violist had not been
suspected of being a crook by the IRS.
Originally this movement was notated in half time, i.e.,
quarters were eights, sixteenths were thirty-seconds, etc.
Someone, I no longer recall who, convinced me to write it so
that a quarter rather than an eighth would get a beat, saying it
would be simpler to play. I regret making that change, because I
liked the look the way it was.
The cello line is cut off the second system. Sorry about that.
