After dinner on November 28, 1973, I sat down at the piano with
a blue felt-tip pen in my hand and created this two-page piece
of graphical music, which I titled Selah, for 24
sustaining instruments. It's really more to look at than to
play. Before it turned yellow I used to leave it on the piano
just for looks.
At the time I had been been listening repeatedly to an amazing
composition for big band with solo piano by composer Michael
Mantler, played by Cecil Taylor with the Jazz Composer's
Scroll on down to see blowups of a couple of sections.
