Sunday morning

Back Top Forward

It's just after 9:00 AM on Sunday morning. The 24-hour race has just begun. All but three of the 44 24-hour runners started at this time. From now until the end the track would be busy with runners at all hours.

I can't positively identify some of the people in this photo. Because we were using ChampionChips to record laps, with many runners frequently changing clothes during the race, many felt no great obligation to have their bib numbers visible. The bearded runner in red is Mark Tizer, and the woman to the left of him, with the turquoise headband, is Janet Runyan, who won the women's 24-hour race with 119.05 miles. (More about them in a later slide.)
