Across the Years 2000/2001

A panoply of identifiable runners

The woman in the foreground (222) is Gillian Robinson from California, who finished the 24-hour race with 101.40 miles. On the outside is James Hill (263) from Arizona, who finished 24 hours with 32.06 miles. Ann Trason, still looking fiercely determined, and on her way to five world women's masters records, is about to rocket through the pack.

This shot has the best view of Marc Tizer, on the inside with the beard and red shirt. Marc is the guru leader of the running group (or cult, depending on your point of view) called Divine Madness, now known as The Community. Janet Runyan, with whom he ran more than I realized, is one of his trainees. During the race I thought Marc ran only an occasional lap, and his role was primary as a supporter, but he finished with 56.17 miles, not a bad effort for a coach.

At this time, I had just finished my first lap after returning from the shower, and was about half a lap away from completing the next one.
