I handed off the camera after the first lap and when I came
around again, Cyra-Lea caught this picture, but almost missed me.
Notice the red gaiters. My wife made these, cloning the pair I'd
bought from Joe Dana, who sells them. The first year I wore
gaiters at ATY, I may have looked a bit strange, but I spent a lot
of time dumping green track surface chips out of my shoes the
first time I ran the race, chips that irritated my feet and gave
me blisters. Since wearing the gaiters I haven't had problems with
gathering chips. This year quite a number of other runners were
also wearing gaiters. Maybe they've been reading my Web
stories.
