This great shot of Tats ("Tach") Murumatsu was taken after the race. He and his wife, who is also a runner, are friends of Coach George Parrott. Tats ran the 48-hour race and had a hard time with the heat, finishing seventh with 133.72 miles. He said that Okayama, Japan, where they come from, is now buried in snow.
According to Coach George's description, Tats is probably the best nonprofessional ultrarunner in Japan. The list of races he has run is impressive, both in difficulty and number. He has also run a 2:48 marathon, and his wife 3:08. They are both very active as guide runners for blind Japanese runners, and they travel all over the world to races.
